Hello,
Today I added a couple of new charts to our right-hand column on the website. These are embedded from the http://www.freestockcharts.com website and are real time updating. We have been using LiveStream to transmit live charts which has served its purpose, but is somewhat limited. If we can make the new embedded charts work out it will give us some new options like creating links in the portfolio views to live charts. How great would it be to be out on the road and have the ability to look at the current portfolio and then click on the symbol link and bring up a live chart and news about that symbol? We can easily add this.
What I don’t want to do is flood our site with new technology that comes and goes. It is important to develop a site that is stable and usable. The new charts require a download of Microsoft Siliverlight. There is a battle in the cloud for desktop control between Adobe, Microsoft and Google and Silverlight is Microsoft’s shot at Adobe Flash. There is hardly a desktop out there that can not view an Adobe flash application. Silverlight is just making the rounds. There are some technological advantages to Silverlight over flash, and Microsoft is making headway.. I think the best video players out there now are using Silverlight. See the netflix player.. I think Hulu.com is Silverlight based.
I believe that there is a Silverlight download for all platforms and major browsers. We are an eclectic group of users and a real test for platform-independent collaboration tools.[funny using independent and collaboration at the same time!] As a group we span multiple continents and use diverse operating systems on anything for mobile devices to six headed workstations. Finding the best solution to keeps us on all the same page is my goal.
Let me know how the new live charts work for you.
